BEGIN FIRST GENERATION
Married Birth Death No. 1 - VINCENT MEGGS, first c1583 Dec.01,1658 c1606 of the Meigs family in America. Vincent spelled the name Meggs. He appears to have come from the Axminster and Chardstock area in the West Country of Southern England. With his three sons, all born in England, he came to America about 1635, being first recorded in this country at Weymouth, MA., in 1639. He married Emma Strong, daughter of William and Margaret Strong. Emma probably died in England before Vincent immigrated since we find no record of her in America.
No. 2 - Vincent; christened 14 Dec 1609 Nov.03,1700 No. 2a - Mary Ann; christened 16 Apr 1610 Chardstock, Devon, England No. 3 - John Jan.29,1612 Jan.04,1672 No. 4 - Mark Aug.25,1616 1674 END OF GENERATION ONE BEGIN SECOND GENERATION
Married Birth Death No. 2 - VINCENT MEGGS, JR. c1609 1700 Little is know about him. Southampton, Long Island, town records say he contracted to build a mill at East- Hampton in 1653, and was a resident of North Sea in 1657, where on June 2, 1657, he is recorded as bringing "an action of debt and damage against Philemon Dickenson of Southold." His estate was settled on Dec. 17, 1700. The disposition of his property would indicate that he left no natural heirs.
1632 No. 3 - JOHN MEIGS, of 1612 1672 Killingworth, CT. Son of (1) Vincent, m. Thomasine Frye. It was this John who changed the spelling of the family name to Meigs. Children

Hubbell is the first of the name in America. Born in England, he is first recorded in America on March 7, 1647 as taking the oath of fidelity to the government of New Haven Colony. They had 8 children. c1663 No. 7 - Concurrence c1643 Oct.09,1708 m. Henry Crane, of Killing- c1635 Apr.22,1711 worth, CT. They had 10 children. About the time of there marriage, they settled in Killingworth, CT. Crane was "young, enterprising and comparatively poor in worldly goods, and withal a man calculated to lead rather than to be led, he cast his fortune into the new enterprise. He was one of the original planters of Killingworth, in 1665." He married second the widow of Henry Champin of Lyme, CT. No. 8 - John, b. at Weymouth, MA. No. 4 - MARK MEGGS, of Huntington, c1614 1674 Long Island, NY. and Stratford, CT. Son of (1) Vincent, m. Avis ________________. Mark was the "black sheep" of the sons. He appears to have identified himself closely with the interests of the family until some time after they moved to New Haven. He moved to Long Island and was granted a lot in Easthampton, but abandoned it before 1651. From that date until 1658 he resided in Southampton, then moved to Huntington, which is farther west on the Island, where he is recorded on March 26, 1672. He again moved, this time to Stratford, CT., and on July 13, 1674, deeded all his property to Jacob Walker, as he is "growing ancient." Mark had at least one known child. Child
